Representatives of the clubs and SADs in the Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante met in Vigo for the Extraordinary General meeting, in which Miguel Cardenal, president of the Superior Sports Council, also took part. Abel Caballero, the city mayor, welcomed the participants to the meeting. Javier Tebas, the head of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional, and Carlos Mouriño, his counterpart at RC Celta de Vigo, spoke to the media about the most important issues covered.
Among the most important matters discussed at the General Extraordinary Meeting, Javier Tebas highlighted the ratification of the signing of the agreement with the RFEF, the distribution of television rights, the Law of Transparency for entities with public subsidies, which include the LFP and the clubs, audiovisual piracy and match fixing.
Javier Tebas took the chance to define the economic situation of the club from Vigo as "excellent" and stated that "it is complying perfectly with the regulations, is in an excellent situation and that gives the fans peace of mind". The president of Celta thanked La Liga for "having chosen our city to include us in the meeting".
The two presidents analysed the points covered at the Extraordinary General Meeting. One of the most important was the future distribution of television rights. "The conclusion we reached is that the government is drawing up the regulations and Miguel Cardenal has told us what he expects to be the criteria for the distribution". Tebas explained, saying that "the Liga BBVA will get 50%, 25% for historic results and 25% for social implantation", and added that "our goal is for the difference between the first and last to be between 1 and 3.5 instead of 1 and 6.5, which we have at the moment ".
Tebas reiterated La Liga’s concern regarding piracy. "We believe that if we do not achieve legislative reform we will be ruined because the money from stadiums is a fundamental part of the income", explained the president.
On the possibility of including new scheduling slots in the competition, Javier Tebas was clear: "It is not being considered in the short or medium term. We champion the international expansion of La Liga and we have to look for a balance between the markets, but within that strategy, playing at 14:00 or 15:00 is not being considered".
The president of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional also provided objective data regarding the competition scheduling. "With objective data, we have 7% more attendance at stadiums than last year. There are a couple of stadiums where this problem exists but the rest of them have good attendances", said Javier Tebas.
