Ricardo Zamora first turned out for Espanyol on the 22nd of April 1916 at the start of a career that would go on to include spells with Barcelona, Real Madrid and the Spanish national team as he made a name for himself as one of Spain's best ever goalkeepers.
He was only 15 years old when he joined Espanyol but already showed the promise of what was to come. 'El Divino' (The Divine One) became one of the best-known players of the era and left his mark on Spanish football in a unique way. The goalkeeper who has conceded the fewest goals in LaLiga at the end of each season is awarded a trophy named after him, The Zamora.
One hundred years after he made his debut, Espanyol will pay tribute to him in their Liga BBVA match against RC Celta on Tuesday. The Blanquiazul keepers will wear a shirt styled on a similar one worn by Zamora at the time.
Espanyol take on Celta at the RCDE Stadium on Tuesday, kickoff at 20:00 CET, with Zamora's saves very much in everyone's minds.
