Ernesto Valverde renews for Athletic

Athletic Club have officially announced that coach, Ernesto Valverde, will be staying on until 30 June 2017, having renewed his commitment to the club for another season.

This will mark Valverde's fourth consecutive season at the San Mamés in this, his second stint as Rojiblancos manager. Having worked his way up through the ranks, coaching the lower categories and reserve team, 'Txingurri' first took over the reins on the Athletic first team bench in 2003, where he remained until 2005.

He subsequently returned to the hot seat in 2013 and Athletic have never looked back, enjoying the greatest period of success in the club's recent history. Under his leadership, the Basque side played in the UEFA Champions League last year, as well as collecting the runners-up trophy in the Copa del Rey competition. Athletic also kicked of their current campaign by picking up their first piece of silverware in 31 years, as winners of the Spanish Super Cup.
