The EPFL Board of Directors met today in Geneva to discuss several issues currently on top of professional football agenda and which particularly affect professional league football at the domestic level.
With respect to the ongoing debate related to the European club competitions’ format, the EPFL offers its support to UEFA in order to ensure that these competitions remain strong and that all participants come from all domestic league competitions based on sporting merit.
The EPFL believes that it is in the interest of all domestic leagues, all national associations and the vast majority of European clubs to defend the current club competitions' format and its basic principles.
In addition, the EPFL reiterated the need to guarantee a more democratic and fair revenue distribution model, which could be beneficial for the development of all professional football leagues and clubs in Europe, independent from their size and dimension.
