RC Celta take on Córdoba CF in Saturday's final fixture, a match the teams come into in opposing frames of mind. The alarm bells are ringing for Eduardo Berizzo’s side. They are on a run of 10 matchdays without victory (their last win came on 1 November at the Camp Nou) and will have to deal with several absences in defence as they look to pick up the three points against the Andalusians.
The blanquiverdes, meanwhile, have had a good month of January despite the home defeat to Real Madrid CF last time out, and are now two points above the relegation zone. Nabil Ghilas, Florin Andone and recent arrival Bebé have galvanised a team who visit Balaídos with no fear.
Team news
The Galicians are short on numbers on the right. The injury to Hugo Mallo has been compounded by Jonny’s suspension, forcing Berizzo to improvise at right-back. Sergi Gómez is likely to feature there, although 'B' team full-back Samu Araujo has also been included in the squad. For Córdoba, the most significant absentee is the suspended Fede Cartabia. Fidel and Luso are still out injured, while Ekeng remains on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Cameroon.
Views from the dugout
Berizzo, under pressure in recent weeks, declared that he is completely focused on the match against Córdoba: "We know how important this game is, we have to come out and play with courage, determination and conviction. We need to win. All our energies are concentrated on this game". Meanwhile, Córdoba central defender Íñigo López confirmed to the media that Miroslav Djukic’s men are enjoying a positive period: "We're going well. We've been working well for several weeks and we're steadily gaining in confidence", he stated.
