It has been a year since Typhoon Yolanda hit the Philippines. On 8 November 2013 millions of people suffered the consequences of this cruel natural phenomenon, which left more than 14 million without a house and affected almost six million children. A year on, and thanks to the aid of UNICEF and its allies, the recovery in the most affected zones are starting to see light.

There is still a lot of work to be done. UNICEF are now working to achieve a total recovery, using all their power to promote development and constructing new opportunities for the affected communities.

The Liga de Fútbol Profesional, through its Foundation, has collaborated with the country
through the first edition of the 'Champions for Life' match. Thanks to the generous help and selflessness of entities like the LFP, their achievements open the road for the Philippines to make a total recovery.

The help of 'Champions for Life' in numbers
More than half a million children received school hygiene kits, and more than a million people have access to drinking water thanks to UNICEF's invaluable help. Despite there being many families who are still unable to re-enter their home, as Diana Valcárcel reports from the affected zone, work is carrying on.

On 29 December, the LFP, the Fundación del Fútbol Profesional and UNICEF will once again put a new challenge in place. In this second edition, with the motto "Celebrate life", the objective continues to be infancy. On one side, UNICEF will send funds to combat the Ebola epidemic in Africa. On the other, the Fundación del Fútbol Profesional will help fund projects ran by its clubs on a social/humanitarian level related to the basic needs of infancy, both in Spain and outside of its borders.
