RC Celta de Vigo beat RC Deportivo de La Coruña 2-1 on Liga BBVA matchday five. The result means that the home side’s good run of form continues and they are still yet to taste defeat this season.
Nolito's early goal gave Eduardo Berizzo’s side the confidence to dominate the first half in terms of play and chances. The player from Cadiz put his men ahead after just four minutes, with a great move in which he first saw off Sidnei Rechel, who was powerless to stop the forward, and then beat German Lux. Once ahead, Celta played their best football against a Deportivo who tried to rally but were unable to unsettle an organised home defence.
Aware of what was a stake, the visitors came out in the second half in search of an equaliser and they were rewarded for their endeavour thanks to Isaac Cuenca. The Catalan midfielder took on defender Andreu Fontàs and his low shot found the back of the net, setting up a thrilling final half hour of the match. When it began to look like the spoils would be shared in the Balaídos, Joaquín Larrivey headed a corner home to make it 2-1.
Víctor Fernández's men still had a chance to equalise again, though, after the referee pointed to the penalty spot for a Gustavo Cabral handball in the box. Goalkeeper Sergio Álvarez went the right way against Haris Medunjanin, who was unable to prevent the Galician derby going to the Celestes.
