The former FC Barcelona player Cayetano Ré passed away in Elche on Tuesday at 75 years of age, having suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for the past few years.
A former Paraguay international, Ré arrived in Spain in the 1959/60 season playing for Elche CF, where spent three years before moving to the city of Barcelona. Firstly he played for FC Barcelona, winning a Copa del Rey (1962/63) and an award for the division’s top goal scorer in 1964/65.
Before retiring, the former player wore the colours of RCD Espanyol and Terrassa FC, his final club as a professional. Cayetano Ré also left his stamp on the sidelines, leading Paraguay national side at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
