On matchday 21 of the Liga Adelante, Real Betis managed to do what no other side had been able to during the entire first half of the season, beating R. Sporting. They did so with a 1-2 scoreline in El Molinón, picking up three points against one of the division's most historic sides
The home team's desire to make history gave them belief during a first half full of high tempo football and good creative play from Betis. Both sides played a very open game, with most of the play taking place around the two boxes. The Asturians' opener came through a great bit of play from Jony that Juan Muñíz finished off with a tap in in front of goal. Pepe Mel's charges responded with a few dangerous attempts on Iván Cuéllar's goal, but Sporting were able to take their narrow lead into the half-time break.
Betis's rewards came right after the restart with a dead ball situation. First, Dani Pacheco took a direct free kick that Bruno sent goalwards with his head, and then Xavi Torres turned the score around with a long-range shot. Even though the encounter was kept alive with the plenty of chances at either end, and the fact that the home team had an opportunity to draw level, Sporting's unbeaten run ended on matchday 21 with a 1-2 defeat to Betis at home.
