Betis have parted company with Pepe Mel after a run of eight games without a win and four consecutive defeats left them 15th in the Liga BBVA and on the verge of elimination from the Copa del Rey.
In a statement, the club thanked the Madrid-born coach for his efforts and wished him all the best for the future.
It was the 52-year-old's second spell on the bench at the Benito Villamarín after working there between 2010 and 2013. He returned to the club in December 2014 and guided them out of the Liga Adelante back into the top flight for this season. Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Getafe CF was his last game in charge.
