Real Betis Balompié go into matchday 34 of the Liga BBVA with a last-ditch attempt against Rayo Vallecano. The Seville side, bottom of the table, need a victory in order to keep believing they can stay up.
Rayo Vallecano will be the side to beat for Betis this Sunday. The Madrid side have managed to move away from the lower part of the table. With just one defeat in five games, Paco Jémez’s men are moving ever closer to their goal: to stay in the top division. The manager said that their objective is “to ensure survival as soon as possible to avoid making life difficult at the end of the championship”. Răzvan Raţ, through suspension, and José Carlos Fernández and Jonathan Viera, through injury, are unavailable for this match for the franjirojos.
For Betis the game at the Vallecas Stadium will be the first of five ‘finals’ that they need to win in order to remain in the Liga BBVA. Victory is essential for Gabriel Humberto Calderón’s side if they are to continue aspiring to their goal of spending another season in the top division. The Argentine manager was realistic in the lead-up to the match: “If we don’t win tomorrow, the mathematical possibility of staying up will of little use”. Absences will be the main setback for the Andalusian team. In addition to Juan Carlos Pérez’s suspension, Antonio Amaya, Guillermo Sara and Nosa are also out injured.
