A return to LaLiga 1|2|3 is no longer a dream for FC Barcelona B – it is now a reality. Relegated to Segunda Division B in 2014/15, the Azulgranas reserves are bound for the second tier again after getting the better of Real Racing Club Santander in the playoffs. They sealed the deal with a 0-0 draw in the second leg on home turf, having put themselves in pole position with a 4-1 first-leg victory in Cantabria, where Marc Cardona and Dani Romera both notched braces.
Barcelona B had to earn promotion the hard way, having fallen to Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa – whom they now join in LaLiga 1|2|3 – in their first playoffs tie. The Catalans made the most of the second chance afforded to them by the competition format, beating FC Cartagena and then overcoming Racing Santander.
Gerard's charges gained that second bite at the cherry thanks to having ended the season as winners of Segunda Division B Group 3 on 82 points, 15 clear of second-placed CD Alcoyano. They were the top scorers in the division with 83 goals and had the best defensive record to boot, conceding just 29 times.
The goals of Cardona and Romera, the saves of Jose Aurelio Suarez, the assured performances of Marlon, the magic of Carles Alena, and the steadying influence of experienced campaigners Alberto Perea and Borja Lopez are among the keys to Barça B's return to the second tier.
