Fazio sending off
The game began as an evenly-matched affair, and was nothing like the early stages of their midweek Copa del Rey semi-final first leg, which was the first of three games the teams will play against each other in the space of a week. A scrappy encounter was continuously interrupted and two such stoppages led to returning Sevilla defender Federico Fazio being booked twice and sent off after only 25 minutes.
Sevilla set pieces
One of Sevilla's biggest strengths this season has been their skill at set pieces. Steven N'Zonzi, Adil Rami, and Fernando Llorente give them plenty of aerial strength and make them dangerous from dead-ball situations. After a corner was only half cleared, defender Daniel Carrico opened the scoring for the visitors, despite them being a man down.
Bongonda, a constant threat
Theo Bongonda was a persistent threat down the left for Celta throughout the game. His speed in one-on-ones, and ability to pick out teammates with his pinpoint crosses, caused the Sevilla defence problems on several occasions as the hosts pressed after the break.
Beauvue leads Celta comeback
Claudio Beauvue opened his LaLiga account when he latched on to Daniel Wass' pass from the right, which the French striker drilled in at the near post with his first touch. The equaliser galvinised Celta as they went in search of a winner in the final half an hour piling the pressure on Sevilla.
From that moment on, Eduardo Berizzo's players tried to make their numerical advantage count and they created plenty of chances to take the lead, but the Sevilla back-line held firm.
