Matchday 4 in La Liga and UD Almería notched up a first win, beating Real Sociedad 1-2.
The first half at the Anoeta Stadium was a stirring affair in which the home side dominated, putting the Andalusians under all sorts of pressure. With less than three minutes on the clock Carlos Vela hit the crossbar, and, soon after, it took a fabulous save from Rubén Martínez to deny the unmarked Imanol Agirretxe.
But on the half hour mark it was Almería who, against the run of play, scored the opening goal. Sebastián Dubarbier chipped the ball into the area, keeper Eñaut Zubikarai punched clear but, unfortunately for the Basque side, it hit his own defender, De la Bella, and rebounded into the goal.
That gave the Andalusians a lift, and they came out in the second half looking to increase their advantage. Tomer Hemed came close early on, hitting the post. Come the 51st minute Mauro made it 0-2 with a pinpoint header from a corner, all but securing the points for the visitors. But a late sending-off for Dubarbier, and Gonzalo Castro making it 1-2 with five minute to go, made for a hectic close to the match. Sociedad managed to hit the bar twice more in the final exchanges, but Almería managed to hang on, coming away with a good three points.
