Celso Borges opened the scoring
Borges broke the deadlock on 21 minutes. Fede Cartabia held the ball up well on the edge of the area before finding Luis Alberto with a pinpoint pass. The midfielder fired in a low cross, leaving Costa Rica's Celso Borges little to do but guide the ball home to make it 1-0.
Celta's reaction
It did not take the home side long to react and, just 10 minutes later, Nolito equalised for Celta with an incredible goal. Theo Bongonda, from the right, laid the ball off to Fabian Orellana. The Chilean found Nolito, who fired the ball in under the crossbar at the left post.
Lux limped of injured
Deportivo keeper, German Lux, limped off injured just before halftime. Lux appeared to hurt himself in the 34th minute, tried to continue, but asked to be taken off in the 37th. Manu Fernandez came on in his place.
Arribas saw red
Nolito was brought down on the edge of the area in the 67th minute and the referee showed Alejandro Arribas a second yellow card, leaving the visitors a man down. He was not the last player to be forced off, as Borges also limped off injured with just three minutes left on the clock.
All square at Balaidos
Despite Nolito's last-minute chance, the Galician derby ended all square. After Borges and Nolito's first-half strikes there were chances for both teams to score after the break, but there were to be no more goals and the game ended 1-1.
