Alaves retake the Liga Adelante top spot

Their victory against Albacete and defeat for Leganes put Alaves back on the summit of the table, on a matchday which barely produced any movement within the lower reaches of the standings.

Elche CF 2-1 R. Zaragoza

All eyes were fixated on the play-off places in Elche, and a comeback was on the cards. A crowd of over 10,000 watched Zaragoza take the lead with a goal by Alberto Guitian. Manu Lanzarote swung in a corner on the 10-minute mark and Guitian connected with the perfect header. However, the celebrations did not last long for the Aragonese side, with Sergio Leon getting up to his old tricks to level the scores before the break. In the second half, Leon was on cue once again, this time from the penalty spot, netting the winner to make it 2-1.

RCD Mallorca 3-0 CD Leganes

The Madrid outfit dominated in the first half, although there were no goals, nor even chances, to speak of. The second half was another matter entirely. Mallorca had their first chance on 54 minutes and made it count. A wonderful piece of link-up play between Lago Junior, Abdoulwhaid Sissoko and Adrian Colunga ended with a goal for the Asturian. Mallorca were spurred on by taking the lead and Colunga netted another from the penalty spot before Alfredo Ortuño made it 3-0 to secure the three points for the home side.

AD Alcorcon 1-0 CD Mirandes

A goal by Natxo Insa was enough for the Madrilenians to secure victory against Mirandes. The visitors played with a man down for 60 minutes after Raul Fernandez was sent off. Even so, Alcorcon came under the cosh and had to fight hard for the win, but ended up claiming the three points.

SD Ponferradina 1-0 UE Llagostera

This game was billed as a thriller and did not disappoint. Two direct rivals both needed the three points to swell their tallies and put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone, and it was Ponferradina who came out on top. Acoran scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot and, although Llagostera fought tirelessly for an equaliser, the scoreline remained unchanged after the 70-minute mark.

Gimnastic 4-4 Cordoba CF

It was an open, exciting game, marked more than anything by goals. Lots of them. The ball found the back of the net eight times at the Nou Estadi – a spectacle which could have gone either way, but ended in a draw. Cordoba maintained the upper hand for most of the match, putting themselves in the ascendency on four occasions, but they were all cancelled out by goals by Nastic, three of them beautifully worked. Nevertheless, the man of the match was Florin Andone, who netted three goals for the Andalusian outfit.

CD Numancia 3-2 SD Huesca

This game provided us with another entertaining goal-fest. Numancia struck first, with Paco Regalon opening the scoring with a header from a corner. However, they could not hold onto their lead for long. Christian Fernandez levelled the scores before the first half was out, tapping in from virtually on the goal line. The story was much the same in the second half. Julio Alvarez put the home side ahead again. The Venezuelan executed a well-placed free-kick, and there was nothing Oscar Whalley could do. As had occurred in the first half, Huesca got themselves back into the game. Mikel Arruabarrena scored the equaliser, but Marc Mateu netted the winner with less than 15 minutes to play, making it 3-2 and giving Numancia the three points.

In the 93rd minute it looked like the three points belonged to Almeria, but Juan Villar popped up, as he so often does. He is Valladolid's goal machine. The forward pulled off a superb volley, firing the ball into the top corner of Casto's net. The Almeria players could not believe their eyes, and nor could Valladolid's. The late strike cancelled out Quique's goal on 51 minutes.

Girona FC 0-0 At. Osasuna

This was the only goalless draw of Matchday 32 of the Liga Adelante. The scoreline remained unchanged for the full 90 minutes. Both teams competed hard, but there was little to separate the two. Neither Girona nor Osasuna created much in the way of goalscoring chances. The draw leaves the home side three points shy of the play-off places. Osasuna, meanwhile, stay seventh in the table, level on points with Cordoba and Alcorcon, in fifth and sixth respectively.

CD Tenerife 1-0 CD Lugo

Suso Santana was the star of this game. His 70th-minute strike gave the islanders the victory, with the Tenerife player finishing off a great assist by 'Choco' Lozano. Up to that point, Lugo had managed to fend off the onslaught from Pep Marti's men, but the three points ended up staying on the island.

Albacete 0-1 D. Alaves

A Manu Barreiro goal put Jose Bordalas's team top of the Liga Adelante with just ten games left to play in the competition proper. Following several gloomy matches, the Vitoria-Gasteiz team put themselves back on the summit. They did so with a win against Albacete, a team epitomising the exact opposite of their executioners, as they fight to escape the relegation zone and stay up next season.

Athletic Club B 2-1 R. Oviedo

Athletic B produced one of the performances of the matchday after going a goal down at San Mames against Oviedo. Toche netted for the visitors, but the home team managed to come from behind to win with the goals and courage of Oscar Gil and Aitor Seguin, who ensured that Jose Manuel Fernandez's clearance ended up in the back of Ruben Miño's net. The three points keep the Rojiblancos in the fight in the Liga Adelante run-in.
