Alavés frustrate the league leaders

Saturday's Liga Adelante action ended with a 1-1 draw between D. Alavés and UD Las Palmas. The team controlled the game and got on the scoresheet first, however, with ten minutes to go until the final whistle Jonathan Viera drew level for the Canary Islanders.
There were barely any chances on goal during the first half, with the best opportunity coming just before the break. Sergio Araujo was the first player to try his luck, but the goalkeeper, Many Fernández, blocked his effort with his right foot.

Things livened up in the second half and the home side's opener came shortly after the restart. A nice bit of play by Toti on the wing was followed up with a cross into the box, with Ranko Despotović getting on the end of it with his head to make it 1-0. Las Palmas did not throw in the towel and in the 54' Vicente Gómez was close to making it all square with a header.

A sending off for Roque Mesa made things even more difficult for Paco Herrera’s charges who needed to turn things around on the scoreboard if they were to leave Mendizorroza with at least a point. The home side had a chance to double their lead but failed to put it away, which they were punished for soon after when Viera, making his return to the Canary Island side, managed to scrape a point back for Las Palmas.
