The Liga Adelante’s main ingredients continue to be excitement and competitiveness. Following the matchday 25 action, the fights for gaining promotion and avoiding relegation are as alive as ever. Look back on the weekend’s most important moments on LFP.es.
A leader with a firm grip on first place
For a 14th consecutive matchday UD Las Palmas have managed to hang onto first place in the league table. R. Valladolid CF occupied the top spot provisionally with their win against AD Alcorcón (1-0), but the Canary Islanders were able to deal with the pressure and carved out a victory against R. Racing C. thanks to Nauzet Alemán, who scored the only goal of the game.
The team from Gran Canaria continue to excite, racking up results that have fans dreaming of a return to life in the Liga BBVA. The Paco Herrera-led team, who have already amassed 50 points, are the top scorers in the division with 44 goals, and continue to be the best side at home in the competition with nine wins, two draws and just one defeat in their ground.
An away side to be feared
The Estadio Municipal de Montilivi was the setting for a top draw meeting between Girona FC and R. Sporting, two sides enjoying great streaks of form at the moment and who sat second and third in the table coming into this match.
Even though the game ended scoreless, it was a great spectacle of football with both teams creating plenty of chances to take all three points. The Asturians hold onto their status as opponents to be feared and remain respected on the road, as they are the only Liga Adelante team yet to be beaten away from home. With 25 matchdays played, only Real Betis have been able to beat the rojiblancos in the championship.
A sweet anniversary in the Butarque
CD Leganés were able to celebrate the Municipal de Butarque’s 17th birthday in unforgettable style. The Madrid team beat CD Lugo 2-0 to record their third straight win without conceding a goal, thus strengthening their claim as one of the biggest revelations of the season so far.
Chuli, a great signing by the club, was the hero of the night after bagging a brace. The Huelva-born striker is in fine goalscoring form since moving to the Spanish capital, as his incredible run shows: four goals from his three games.
A Numancia side that refuses to quit
The Soria outfit proved that, until the referee blows the final whistle, anything is possible in the world of football. Juan Antonio Anquela’s charges were trailing 1-0 against SD Ponferradina in the 89th minute but turned it around in epic fashion with goals from Sergi Enrich (90') and Vicente Pérez (90+2').
