Real Madrid was ruthless against Real Sociedad in Saturday’s opening Liga BBVA matchday 13 fixture. The home side finished the encounter a worthy 5-1 winner thanks to a fantastic first half performance in which both Karim Benzeman and Sami Khedira found the back of the Basque side’s net, and Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a brace.
On the 12 minute mark, a Benzema cross from the left found Ronaldo, who controlled the ball well before shooting across goal to open the scoring. Six minutes later, the roles were reversed as the Portuguese passed from the left to allow the Frenchman to take it first time and double the lead. Ronaldo made it 3-0 from the penalty spot, and then a great bit of collective play finished with Khedira making it 4-0 in the 36th minute.
Antoine Griezmann clawed one back for Jagoba Arrasate’s men in the 61st minute with an exquisite lop over Diego López but Ronaldo completed his hat-trick soon after from a direct free kick, bringing his Liga BBVA tally to 16 goals and making him the league’s top goal scorer. The Whites are now two points off Atlético Madrid and three off Barcelona.
