Founding: 23rd of July, 1930. The main driving force was Albert de Quintana y de León, who was the first club president and founded the club along with Andrés de Benito, Manuel de Chopitea, Lluís Ribas, Josep Maria Pla Dalmau, Francesc Figueras , Joaquín Medrano, Antoni Güell, Rafael Portas, Amadeu Oliva, doctor Roca Pinet and the Coll y Pochs.

Taking his first steps at the same rate at which the club was growing, Fèlix Farró y Martí grew hand in hand with the team where he had arrived as a 17 year-old. After serving the club for 16 years, he was bid farewell with a great homage.

One of the nicest memories in the history of Girona FC was their first official match. It was at the Colònia Artigas ground and the result was 1-1. Their first goal was scored by Clara. On that day, 11 men began writing the history of this club: Florenza, Teixidor, Farró, Flavià, Comas, Corradi, Ferrer, Escuder, Clara, Tarradellas and Torrellas.

The 1935/36 Season: Success arrived in their first season in la Liga Adelante. They couldn’t have made a better debut in the division and ended the season in first place in their group. Even though in the end they were unable to win promotion via the play-offs that they took part in with RC Celta de Vigo, Real Zaragoza, Arenas, Murcia CF and Xerez, they enjoyed the first experience in the division straight away.

In the following years they yo-yoed between the 3rd division and the 2nd division of the time. The 1947-48 season is remembered particularly fondly as a season in which they returned to the second division.

On the 14th of August, 1970, they played for the first time at their own stadium: the Estadio de Montilivi. After 50 years at Vista Alegre, Girona enjoyed their new stadium. On that day Girona played against Barcelona to celebrate the event.

50th Anniversary: 1980. Although the first quarter century of the club’s life wasn’t celebrated, various events and games were organised for the 50th anniversary. Different games against big teams such as Real Sociedad, Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona were played during the year; the game against FC Barcelona ending the celebrations as it had for the opening of Montilivi.

After going between different divisions during their history, Girona got to la Liga Adelante in 2007-2008 and have stayed there since. After seven seasons in a row in the division, and although they came close to going up to la Liga BBVA last season, Pablo Machín’s side will fight for their eighth consecutive season to reach the best Liga in the world in the year that it will celebrate its 80th year of history.
