Group A
New York City FC are in pole position, having beaten Liverpool FC 1-0 in their opener and then edged past Valencia CF by the same scoreline. Despite that defeat, Los Che finished the day second in the table, having earlier kick-started their campaign by thrashing FC Barcelona 4-0. Los Azulgranas played out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in the group's other encounter.
Group B
Atletico Madrid ended the day on top after claiming two impressive victories in succession, following up a 4-0 rout of Club America with a 2-1 success against Villarreal CF. Inter Milan sit in second place, having been held to a 0-0 stalemate by Villarreal in their opening fixture before dispatching America 9-0.
Group C
FC Porto lead the group after going unbeaten across their first two games, which yielded a goalless draw with Real Madrid and a 4-0 win over the New York Red Bulls. Los Blancos' first fixture, against JEF United, also finished all square (1-1); the Japanese outfit concluded the day in second, with the same points and goal difference as the Madrilenians but ahead on goals scored, having drawn 1-1 with the Red Bulls in their other match.
Group D
SL Benfica are looking down on the other three teams after day one. The lads from Lisbon have a perfect record following two rounds of action, having overcome RCD Espanyol 1-0 in their curtain-raiser and then eased past Ironbound SC 3-0 to climb to the summit. Sevilla FC's opening 4-0 victory over Ironbound was enough to leave them second after the final ball had been kicked, ahead of Espanyol despite having lost the clash between the two sides 1-0.
