In the ninth round of Liga BBVA, Rayo Vallecano de Madrid secured an important victory against UD Almería, who remain bottom of the table, thanks to a free kick by Alejandro Gálvez.
Both sides played to win as they looked to move away from danger at the foot of the table, and it was Rayo who carved out the two best chances early on. Almería didn't hang back, however were unable to truly test Rubén Martínez in the away side's goal. In the 37th minute, Iago Falqué had the game's best chance, but his left footed effort was turned on to the post by Almería goalkeeper Esteban.
Immediately at the start of the second half the Madrid side tested out Esteban again, Roberto Trashorras this time with a long-range effort. Meanwhile Almería pushed on, and enjoyed success down the left hand side as they sought the game's first goal. In the 64th minute Rayo's Saúl Ñíguez saw red, but his side weren’t affected by the numerical disadvantage, as Gálvez scored a direct free kick in the 78th minute to give them the 0-1 victory.
