Spanish football has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the victims of the DANA storm, with a Crisis Committee having been set up. It is made up of the RFEF, LALIGA, Liga F, the Valencia Football Federation, whose territory has been the most affected, and the Castile-La Mancha Football Federation, and the aim is to analyse the damage to all sporting infrastructures where football is played and to collaborate in the reconstruction of these facilities, offering as much support as possible. This will include the provision of materials and personnel to sporting clubs and entities.
At this time, the priority remains the search for the missing and the provision of support for the thousands of families who have lost so much. With this in mind, the Committee will carry out a damage assessment of sporting facilities where football is played after the situation has returned to a minimum level of normality. Already it is believed that at least 105 football and futsal centres have been affected.
This work will be overseen by the president of the Valencia Football Federation, Salvador Gomar, and the president of the Castile-La Mancha Football Federation, Pablo Burillo. These efforts will help the victims of this catastrophe, offering as much support as possible within the context of football. Given football’s important role in Spanish society, the hope is for the teams in this region to get excited about playing again, for the athletes to have all the support they need to return to the pitch and for those affected to be able to return to normality as soon as possible.
