LALIGA HYPERMOTION is still without a favourite. With 14 rounds to go, the battle for promotion to the top flight is the tightest among all the second divisions of the five big leagues over the last ten seasons. Just nine points separate the leader and the tenth-placed team.
Proof of this competitiveness is reflected in the fact that the most repeated result, coming up a total of 47 times, is 1-1. The number rises to 95 when counting only draws.
The difference in points between Real Oviedo and CD Leganés is 9. At this stage of the season it's the smallest difference recorded between the tenth-placed team and the leader over the last ten seasons in LALIGA HYPERMOTION. Another fact that underlines the competitiveness is that more than 60% of the teams in the competition are still in contention for a Playoff spot. CD Tenerife (14th) is only six points behind Racing Ferrol (6th). "Every team competes at its best in every game, in fact, only 100 games of 308 matches played up to MD28, 32%, have been decided by more than a one-goal margin," indicates LALIGA's team of Mediacoach analysts.
With an average of 2.26 goals per match, LALIGA HYPERMOTION has seen 693 goals scored. Eighty-five of them have been scored between the 76th and 90th minute, demonstrating that the outcome is often not decided until the very last minute of the match. Additionally, LALIGA HYPERMOTION has exceeded the total number of goals scored by the same point as last season by almost 100.
A particular case in point is that of Julián Calero's FC Cartagena, who were bottom of the table (15 points) until the MD21. Seven matchdays later, Los Boquerones managed to get out of the relegation zone and, in 2024 alone, has taken 16 points from a possible 21.
Duel at the top of the table
Every matchday in LALIGA HYPERMOTION sees positions in the standings change. This weekend, Matchday 29, will host a duel for direct promotion between CD Leganés (1st) and SD Eibar (3rd) on Sunday, March 3rd at 9pm. Only four points separate the Madrid club from their Basque opponents.
CD Leganés has the best defence in LALIGA HYPERMOTION with only 18 goals conceded across 28 matches. Meanwhile, RCD Espanyol boasts the competition's top scorer, Martin Braithwaite, who has netted 17 goals, including six match-winners, in 26 matches. Together with team-mate Javi Puado, they have scored 27 of RCD Espanyol's 46 goals to date, making them the most prolific duo in the competition.
SD Eibar is not far behind. It has the second best attack in the competition with 44 goals. Jon Bautista (10), Stoichkov (9) and Ager Aketxe (8) are three of the best attacking options available to Los Armeros.
Another interesting duel this weekend will be Racing Club Ferrol - R. Racing Club, which will be played on Saturday, March 2nd at 4:15pm. With one point separating the two sides, Cristóbal Parralo's men (6th) welcome the Santander side (8th), who are coming off the back of a win over the leader at the Campos de Sport de El Sardinero, to A Malata.
LALIGA HYPERMOTION has not yet said its last word. The high intensity of the competition, the size of the participating clubs and the quality of the players make it one of the most competitive leagues in the world, where those fighting for promotion have to prove themselves more than ready to play at the highest level. Proof of this can be found with recently promoted UD Las Palmas and Deportivo Alavés, who are currently eighth and 12th in LALIGA EA SPORTS.
