LALIGA EA SPORTS has returned, with the opening matchday showcasing the quality and competitiveness of the competition. Of the 10 fixtures played so far, six of them finished as draws, while the four victories were by just one-goal margins. This demonstrates just how even the competition is, with all teams competing well to begin the season. Beyond the results, the matches were played at a high tempo and with great intensity, with no team able to brush aside their opponents easily.

Last season, LALIGA EA SPORTS had the most draws of Europe’s five major leagues, with 30 percent of matches ending with a sharing of the spoils or, in other words, three out of 10 per matchday. In this season’s first round of action, that number doubled. Not only do all these draws underline the finely balanced nature of the division, but every one of the six draws from last weekend saw both sides score.

In Matchday 1, several young players stood out and showed their potential, continuing a LALIGA trend of the past few years. Considering this is the very start of the championship, and considering clubs are still working on finalising their squads, the level of performance was impressive.

As for the four teams who started this new season with a win, they were RC Celta, Rayo Vallecano, Real Valladolid and FC Barcelona. Each of them won by just one goal, earning the three points by being more clinical at the decisive moments. Every other game finished as a draw, including Real Madrid’s season opener away at a strong RCD Mallorca side, who made life difficult for the capital city outfit.

One of the standout players from the opening weekend of LALIGA EA SPORTS was Christantus Uche. He played for Getafe CF in their 1-1 draw against Athletic Club at San Mamés, with the visitors calling up several B team players and even starting a couple of then. He scored their equaliser in what was a prime example of the competitiveness of the opening matchday.

The final match of the round was a heavyweight bout, as Villarreal CF and Atlético de Madrid played out a 2-2 draw that had a bit of everything. There were chances for both teams, attacking play, high pressing, intensity and, of course, goals. Both these sides demonstrated that they possess the quality need to compete near the top of the table in LALIGA EA SPORTS, a competition that is truly up and running and that is as competitive and fun as ever.
