Previously… José Rojo Martín (Salas de los Infantes, Burgos, 23 de marzo de 1968), better known in the football world as Pacheta, was a defensive midfielder who began his sporting career with the team from his province, the now extinct Real Burgos. Between 1994 and 1999 he gave his best years to RCD Espanyol, where he became one of the first names on the team sheet. After his spell at the Catalan club he joined CD Numancia, where he played for four years before retiring from the game at the end of the 2002-03 season.
His achievements… Despite being a player focused on breaking up the opposition’s play, he ended up scoring 15 goals with the pericos. In the 1995-96 season, Espanyol qualified for the UEFA Cup and that gave Pacheta the opportunity to play in Europe the following year.
After hanging up his boots… He returned to the world of football at the start of the 2007-08 season to work as Numancia’s sporting director, and later became the club’s coach that very same year. However, Pacheta could not help the team avoid relegation and was relieved of his duties and took up the post of sporting director again. In later years he went on to coach teams such as Real Oviedo, FC Cartagena, Polish outfit Korona Kielce and Hércules CF.
Did you know… José Ramón Martín earned the nickname 'Pacheta' because he belonged to a family of footballers from his village, Salas de los Infantes, who were known by this name. Real Burgos’ most prominent supporters clubs was named the Peña Pacheta until the club ceased to exist.
